Y’all- these last few weeks have been SO difficult for me. I figured I would share a few ways I’m staying productive while still trying to enjoy spring semester
Tip 1: Study outside or in a different location
I know this Virginia weather has us all on our toes, but use those two days of the week where the weather is actually enjoyable and soak up the sunshine! I am always more productive when I sit outside and pretend I’m the main character in a movie. Sunlight naturally boosts serotonin levels, and I think we all need a little extra as we try to make it through the last few weeks. Grab yourself a bagel with coffee and get to work!
Tip 2: Celebrate the small successes
With large assignments and finals looming overhead, make sure to give yourself some credit when you complete a small assignment or task of the day. From cleaning your room to finishing your homework early, don’t forget to reward yourself occasionally. Personally, I will watch an episode of a show I’m watching or write a blog post as my decompressor. We all need encouragement, even if it comes from yourself- be nice to YOU first!

Tip 3: Try new things
It is easy to get caught up in the whirlwind that is second semester, so make sure to leave time for something fun. Go hiking or bake a sweet dessert rather than holing up in your room. I’ve found that getting out of my routine ultimately helps me be more productive than I was before. Trying new things boost motivation and mood!
Tip 4: Eat real food
I never understood the “caffeine addiction” joke about college students until I became one myself. I think it is less of needing the fuel and more taking what’s available to us. I myself struggle to get a full 3 meals in for one day, but I have found that I feel more motivated and creative when I do. Meal prepping is a good way to ensure you are getting enough food in a day because our schedules are ever-changing. I had to learn the hard way that my body can’t strictly run off pizza rolls and tortilla chips- go out and get some wholesome foods!
Tip 5: Do the things you love in your college town
Before you get to thinking too far ahead into the summer, go out and do the things you love in your college town. Whether it is getting Mexican food with the girls or making a late night Sheetz run, soak it up before you each go back home. Plan to see each other over the summer so you can set goals to complete this semester. We never get this time back so now is the time to enjoy ourselves.
